 COVID19 Journaling

Our Process

I was talking to Nana Mary in Sydney who loves to journal and create memories of moments. Being a historian, when she suggested we do a project together to document our journey of isolation, I jumped at the idea. Our family is dealing with a significant amount of challenges as we go through COVID19 in New York City. My husband being an ICU physician and an anesthesiologist at a Brooklyn hospital is at the front line of this pandemic.

Nana Mary suggested we take a word daily and create a work of art that could be anything ranging from a reflection on what it means to you. Fill a page in any way you like: lettering, numbers, watercolor, acrylic, crayons, markers, pen/pencil drawing, poem, collage, stamping, stitching,  paper making- whatever we wish for it to be. We began this journey with the word MASK.

We decided to do this journaling as a family- it has become our coping mechanism through the pandemic. In addition to doing it as a family, we invited friends who wanted to join us in this process. We are going to post our visual diary daily and include other entries that we receive from friends and family.
